Kyva: nationalization regional power supply companies to be test for president

Head of the Socialist Party of Ukraine Illia Kyva has addressed the country's authorities demanding to nationalize regional electricity supply companies being under control of Russia's VS Energy International Ukraine.

"I, Illia Kyva, the head of the Socialist Party of Ukraine, officially address President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Secretary of the NSDC Oleksandr Turchynov and Chief of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Hrytsak with the demand to immediately return the strategic facilities of the energy complex, which are now in hands of Russian oligarchs, to the control of the state," he said. He pointed out that these companies only in 2017 "pumped" out millions of U.S. dollars from Ukrainians. "$100 million from our pockets came to sponsor the war, as the ultimate beneficiary of this company is a Russian citizen: Alexander Babakov. The same Babakov who was a member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation who voted for the annexation of the Crimea and is in fact involved in triggering the war in Donbas." The politician also said that solving the issue of "nationalization" of energy facilities could halve electricity tariffs for the entire population and "actually remove payment for electricity for pensioners and combatants." In conclusion, he called the situation "a test of loyalty to Ukraine," and called on the President to take a unified position in relations with the aggressor country. "Petro Oleksiyovych, will you continue ignoring the war between Russia and Ukraine? I ask the question: who creates favorable conditions for Russian invaders inside our country?" Moscow oligarch Alexander Babakov, a member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation who voted for the annexation of the Crimea and who pumped out about $100 million yearly via setting exorbitant tariffs for electricity, has 10 regional electricity supply companies in ownership. It is time for you to put an end to this, take a pro-Ukrainian position and announce the nationalization of strategic facilities," Kyva said. According to Kyva, VS Energy International Ukraine owns the following companies: Kyivoblenergo, Rivneoblenergo, Khersonoblenergo, Kirovohradoblenergo, Zhytomyroblenergo, Odesaoblenergo, Chernivtsioblenergo and Sevastopolenergo. The company also owns significant stakes of shares in Mykolaivoblenergo and Khmelnytskoblenergo.
