I.Kyva: "On the eve of the elections there are attempts to clean out the media space, trying to deprive channels of their license"
The National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting must be independent of all branches of power, Leader of the Socialist Party of Ukraine (SPU) Illia Kyva has said on 112 Ukraine TV channel.
"The National Council is responsible for the purity of the media space of the country. It cannot be under control of the authorities. And in practice there are four representatives of the president in the Council. And they press on other members of the National Council and intimidate them. This is the dictatorship of the authorities in the media policy," he said.
The politician said that Petro Poroshenko is trying to monopolize the Ukrainian media.
"On the eve of the elections there are attempts to clean out the media space. They are trying to deprive 112 Ukraine and 1+1 TV channels of their license. The Presidential Administration does not like that Illia Kyva appears on your channels, because I criticize the head of state. TV channels should show different points of view, and they are doing it. And the Presidential Administration does not like it. Therefore, today they entitled the paid "activists" to go the Verkhovna Rada, demanding the resignation of the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting members. This is a Putin's scenario to expel the undesirables from the National Council and to bring in their place people from the Presidential Administration, and then to seize the licenses from TV channels that do not sing to the music of Bankova Street," Kyva said.
