They gave their lives for our future, – Ilya Kyva honoring the memory of those who died in the Ilovaisk tragedy
Socialist Party of Ukraine leader Ilya Kyva and members of the All-Ukrainian Union of Anti-terrorist Operation Veterans has taken part in memorial events on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the Ilovaisk tragedy. One took place on Wednesday in Kyiv on Mikhailovskaya Square.
"The Ilovaisk cauldron took the lives of more than 360 Ukrainian soldiers. This was the greatest loss not only of that day, but of the entire Russia-Ukraine war. Our soldiers gave their lives for us to continue to live. They died for the future of our children! We remember and honor the memory of our heroes," Kywa said on his Facebook page.
Some 366 Ukrainian soldiers are estimated to have perished during the Ilovaisk tragedy. Some 158 persons are still missing, 429 soldiers were wounded and 128 taken prisoner. The fighting near Ilovaisk lasted from August 6 to September 3, 2014.
